So we finally got our laying hens we wanted!! My flock is finished ( still going to get more ducks) and we currently have 12 chickens. 4 are bantams xs we really dont know for sure what they are and they are straight run . We think our black and white one is a roo . They're names are eenie, meenie, miney, mo . We have 2 buff orpintons- miss kay and juliet, 2 araucanas - allison and grace, 2 production red - fiona and little red and finally 2 white leghorns- waffles and shiny. I couldn't be happier with our choices. We still would like to get a rooster at some point but right now we have meat birds in a section of the coop , so we want to wait until after they are gone and put the rooster in his own section. Hopefully soon I will have pics to show everyone !!

Nice! Sounds like a great mix of breeds! For conversation, I just finished my flock with the addition of 6 pullets just yesterday. I now have a total of 16 chickens, between 8 and 10 weeks old. 4 Buff Orpingtons, 4 Black Australorps, 4 Barred Rocks (they're my favorites), 2 Rhode Island Reds (my least favorites), 1 Cuckoo Maran, 1 Mystery Breed. I have a mix of pullets and cockerals, I believe it's 9 pullets and 7 cockerals. I have selected what I expect will be my roo, it's one of the barred rocks, very friendly, seems to be in charge of the flock but isn't mean to the others at all.

I've got the new 6 pullets in a penned in area inside the coop where they can safely interact with the original 10 through the wire. I'll keep them in there for a week. I'll then let them all out to free range together for the first time and... cross my fingers that they work out the new pecking order peacefully. I'll supervise them closely for as much time as I can but we'll see how it goes. Sometimes these integrations go well, sometimes, not so well.
