Finishing Coop/Run Tonight

Well.... better late than never. Little chickies on the left, big kids on the right. The chicken hutch was given to us. The Coop/Run is the one we built. I will finish the painting and add the nest boxes later. The hen is sitting on eggs in a cat litter box, and the other girls wont start laying until sometime in September. The door on the red side is for collecting eggs. I have been trying to post pics since last night, but have been having problems. Here is the link to the pics on FB.

Oh yeah, I gotta screw the tin onto the top. Gotta wait to get the special screws, but I figure the tin is heavy enough that it wont fall off or anything.

Really nice! I am envious! Are you going to add more locks on the egg door? Looks like a crafty coon could manage to slip in the way it is in the photo. I'm still trying to figure out how to add my egg boxes. I have two months to get it done, luckily! Do the girls show interest in egg boxes before they get near the laying age? Did your hen pick the litter box or did you set it up for her? My sisters chickens decided an old christmas wreath lying on a table was the perfect spot to nest! It was quite picturesque in the snow! Wish I'd had a camera...

Thanx!!! I dont plan on adding more locks. I have never seen anything around here such as a racoon. If I need to, I can add locks later. The only predator I have seen was when the chickies were in the brooder on the back porch. A king snake was coming in the door as I was going out to get a rag. I was worried that It was going after the chickies so I moved them inside the house. Not a problem since. My full grown chickens are too big for the snake and the chickies have grown large enough now that I dont have to worry about it. I dont know about them showing interest in the nest boxes before laying age. My grown chickens were given to me at about a year old, and the chickies are only 5 weeks old now and are not in the same area as the older chickens. As far as the litter box, I put her in it. Before, she was in a revamped rabbit hutch, and her nest was the rabbit sleeping area. When I finished the Coop/Run, I put her in the litter box with the eggs and some pine shavings and she loves it. Cute about the wreath. I wish you had a camera in hand at the time, too!!!!!
