I have some "ladies" that turned out to be "gents" getting processed on Saturday. I know for beef you feed grain for the last month or so to finish them. Should I feed these chickens anything this week to finish them?

You can feed them corn, but it will just add extra fat. We always just stick with the broiler grower feed unless we are running low towards freezer camp, then we will use cracked corn instead of buying more feed. We always have corn on hand for our beefers.

It depends on how much fat you like on your birds. For my family, there's plenty of fat on the birds by just feeding starter all the way to slaughter. I tried to finish the birds once and I was ripping out golf ball sized globs of fat from the birds cavity during processing.

I just use corn for the last week as it's cheaper and not enough time to add huge amounts of fat, plus they feel so spoiled
