From time to time I have seen smallish eggs, or smaller than are normally laid.

I had thought they were first, or beginners eggs, and looking at older threads often the comment is "she has laid her first small egg".

The Boss however tells me they are probably last eggs.

Opinions please..

Absolutely no idea I have around 80 or so birds of different genders, and two basic types. Either "yard fowl, or common breed, and Layers. The egg is from a Yard fowl, but it, as others before them are smaller than the regular size.

I am currently going through an egg famine mainly due to molt, laziness, broodiness, and sneaky lay it where you cant finditness.

But as I implied I am trying to figure out if it is a young bird starting out, or an old birds last fanfare.

I have been reading on here about chickens whilst slowing down laying sometimes into the full extent of their lives. Mine seem to be giving up after a couple of years, and then just taking advantage of the nice man with the free food.

when mine stopped laying they would once or twice a week till it depleated all the way.

so my guess is a bird that is starting to lay

More likely first eggs.
Pullet eggs can stay small for days or weeks or months.
