I had a RIR disappear for two weeks and turn up sitting on a nest in the baler inside the shed. We let her sit another week and realized the eggs were no good. I removed her and put her in a tub with pine chips with a set of new eggs.
The first one hatched today!
I am so excited. I only had a broody one other time. Last summer and it may have been her. She gave up halfway through though. Anyway... I think she did better this time because she left the coop and the other chickens were not there to pester her and sit on her and lay eggs in her nest.... Eventually she has to go back to the coop. How do I acclimate her back in with her babies? Will she do it on her own?
I have no idea what I am doing. Any advice in appreciated.
UPDATE!!!! 3:30 pm.
Another egg is hatching. I see a little beak and some feathers!
