I hatched out a good ol hatch of James Marie Farm quail the beginning of March... They are nearing that one month point now, just about have all their feathers in, another two weeks or so and they will be fully plumed. They have all been doing really well, and oh man what a difference in the temperament of them!!!! They are so calm, I can hold them no problem or pet them. None of them pick on each other at all, everyone gets along just dandy!

One thing I have noticed though is my JMF A&M's... Well some of them are coming out with brown feathers on their backs and wings. They are white for the most part, but they should only have brown or a black spot on the top of their head I thought... some of them the whole top of their head is brown feathers, some look fine, others have brown feathers on their back and wings... From what I understand that is a degrading in quality trait showing and those that arent right are the first that should be culled...? I didn't think I would have this with JMF birds, but really it isnt a big deal in the end.. they all eat. but size is a trait I would like to keep no matter what...

I still havent sexed them all out yet, I have several roos in the brown coturnix batch, but I think I ended up with more females than I thought I would, which is good. As far as the A&M's go, I dont know whats what yet, I'm going to have to beer sex them.

On another note, I noticed I am starting to get weevles in my dang feed... I didnt have the problem for a while now... I guess its going to turn in to plastic bins to keep feed in... I dont have them too bad yet though.. Are the weevles bad if the quail eat any of them?? I figured its just a bug, and birds eat bugs so it aint a big deal... but I may not know something there..
