I believe I have my first Broody pullet! Doesn’t help I am going out of town for few days and my pullet sitters won’t know how to break her. Checked for eggs at 4 pm, unusual to have pullet in nest at that time. She didn’t move when I opened little door to get eggs, usually it scares them off nest. Made her get up. 6 pm back in nest! I went in and she didn’t move, I petted her ( very unusual- usually skittish ). She made a low throaty noise but didn’t peck. I lifted her out. No egg just the plastic ones I have left for the pullets who haven’t started laying yet. Can’t see nest on my camera so I don’t know if she went back to sit in nest last night. She was on nest at dawn this am and didn’t come out for food like usual. Again let me pet her and made her throaty noise. Telling everyone to make her leave nest when they feed or water the chickens throughout the day. Best I can do leaving for 3 days. She will probably be entrenched when I get back.
The other problem is my cockerel is a meat bird ( thanks TRactor Supply) when he mates, I don’t see his vent contact with pullet vent so don’t think he is fertilizing the eggs. He is big and poor technique LOL Maybe once and awhile. When I crack eggs- not very good at being able to tell.
They are 7 mo old, so don’t really want a clutch anyway. Oh and did I mention dry fowl pox is going through my flock
so she needs her nutrition and water!
