First Cayuga egg!

My little Donna laid her first egg today! It was a small egg, and mostly black with white patches. Beautiful, were going to hollow it out. She's a six month old Cayuga, I expected it to come in the spring but SURPRISE! We found it in the ground nest box we have for the bantams, it looked huge compared to them but it's relatively small. I will post a picture if I can get to it off my phone, otherwise I can't because my computer crashed... But still, go Donna! Can't wait to eat the next one.

I didn't believe they were black, then... Tadaa!

first few each laying will be black, then they start to lighten up quickly, before long, they'll just be off white.

You lucky duck! Errrr, lucky person with a duck!

I am still waiting on my 3 Cayuga girls to lay and they are about 7 months old! I haven't seen a black egg yet. White and green but not black. It will be so neat to see our first one, even if it doesn't last all season.
