Of course, there is always a story. I went into my local TSC on my birthday without an intent on buying any chickens. Though as I walked in the store, I could hear the little chirps. Now, I did plan on buying chickens, but I only wanted four and TSC won't let you buy less then six. I thought about it, thinking "I need more eggs anyway." So, I check out the breeds, read the cards, now of course my chickens are pets and are only used for laying so I didn't want to get a meat chicken but a very good egg laying chicken.
I decided to go with two RSL as I already had two at home, and four buff orpingtons. (Don't ask why). As the guy is trying to catch the orpingtons, he goes "Oh, you want a really special chicken?" Now I'm thinking, there is gonna be something wrong with this thing. Though as he catches it, he says it is a cochin (Had never heard of this chicken, ever!) and points out the feathered feet. Okay, I want that chicken. HECK YEAH I WANT IT, ITS SO FLUFFY!
So I went into there, with no intent on getting any chicks there and walked out with six. My excuse was that when I bought them from there the last time non died until predators got them, but when I got them at atwoods I had to buy two more cause two died. In the end I had two buff orpington ROOSTERS, a cochin hen and a cochin ROOSTER, and two RSL.... Now.
I have three roosters and five hens? Yeah that ain't gonna work, got to get rid of two roosters now. Was in the long run thinking about keeping the cochin, but the predators had another idea. Took the cochin rooster and one of the buff orpingtons, along with one of my RSL hens. Now isn't that ironic? Take one of each? Guess they wanted to try the whole menu. xD Okay... bad joke about my own chickens dying.
Fast forward a few months. Been expecting an egg from my RSL, hadn't gotten one until yesterday I suppose. Nice, dark, really small egg so I knew it wasn't from the older hens. Also from yesterday I got a GIANT egg. I mean... huge. It can only be from the cochin.
Problem? Aren't cochins not supposed to lay until six months?
I got four eggs yesterday, I only have four hens, so its not like someone laid two.
But look at the size of this thing....

Comparing it to my everyday egg that I have gotten from my older RSLs.

Compared to a jumbo sized store bought egg.

Comparing it to the egg I'm almost certain came from my young RSL (left) and again to the store bought egg. (right)
