Last night was our first cold night for our (51) one week old chicks, 20 degrees. Tonight will also be cold. I built a brooder and it is in our unheated chicken coop. I have a power cord ran for the brooder. I was happy to see that the brooder was able to keep all the chicks warm last night, not worried anymore about potential cold nights.

The brooder is 4x8 foot, almost two feet high. it has three 250 watt lamps controlled by two herpstat temperature contollers. The left half has four strips of plywood on the top that can be removed as the outside temprature warms up.

The temp controllers are not overworked.

Chicks laying on the wooden disk that one of the thermostat probes is attached to.

Happy chicks
