So I ended up using an old rabbit hutch I have as a coop.

I will definitely invest in a nice coop that has the top part completely enclosed for winter. I just have a few questions:
1. We live in Texas where is is hot 90% of the time... Do I still need to put their red light out there for them at night time?

2. I put rocks around the bottom since I moved the pull out tray that was used for the rabbit, is that sufficient to keep critters out?

3. I used a plastic box with their bedding as a ''nesting box", will they be happy with that?

4. Lastly I am most worried about letting them free range in the side yard where they are located... I am really worried about them fluttering over to where the dogs are on the other side. Are they smart enough to sense danger and not go over? I want them to leave free and happy lives, but I'm scared they'll leave. What do yall think? Thank you for all your help!

They don't need heat at night if they have feathers. No, they don't have since enough not to go where the dogs are. You could build them a movable tunnel where they would be safe by bending wire fencing into an arch and enclosing the end.
