These sure are laying first year. There's nobody else in the hoop coop but the brood I hatched in late March. These were the first eggs I could find showing fertility in late February, in California and Maryland.
There's some French from Maryland and powder blue (not sure what color they're called, but powder blue with white dots), Pearl Grey, Royal Purple, chocolate or brown and Pied from California.
Do the French lay earlier ? They sure are big, almost twice as big as any of the regular size.
Plan on processing two of the French tomorrow. If any of the seven French are hens, they better speak up tomorrow when it counts. I'd much rather find a pair of testes than a bunch of eggs forming when they're being processed.
That's strange, but here in Central Florida, we've always referred to processing as "dressing" an animal, as in "field dressing". I guess "processing" sound more clinical
, maybe easier to handle in our minds.
