First Egg!!

Our first egg was laid this morning by my girl, Iris. Happy day!! She laid it perfectly in a big ol’ pile of poop. Is this a Normal thing to do when they’re new to laying? Since I built my coop (and am new to chickens) I get worried that what I have isn’t adequate. There are 3 Nesting boxes that are 12x12” and filled with straw. Also since it was covered in poop I washed it in warm water only can I still eat it? Haha
(I placed it in the fridge since I read that washing them removes the bloom). any tips would be appreciated. Regardless, I’m over the moon that my girls are finally laying.

It's pretty common for new layers to drop eggs in all sorts of random places. Sometimes it takes a while for them to figure out what they're doing. And yes you can eat the egg you found today.
