Yesss, it's perfect! Nice solid shell and pretty heavyCongratulations! First eggs are so exciting!
Congrats! I hope that there would be many more to come!Yesss, it's perfect! Nice solid shell and pretty heavymy last hen had very fragile eggs
OHHHH I assumed that their feather pigment had something to do with it!You can’t tell who laid it by the shell color, but you can look at their vents and the one who laid will have a much larger vent. First eggs will often deviate from the hens normal pattern anyway, and you can’t really get a feel for sure of which hens eggs have certain patterns until they’ve been laying for a couple weeks.
Nope, anyone can lay any pattern regardless of feather color. I actually hear similar things around town at my kids sports events, I’ve heard that shell color matches feather color for chickens, but blue, olive, pink etc definitely disprove this. My nephew swears that his chickens lay eggs the color of their eyes, and when he shows me, it definitely doesn’t, but whatever he’s seeing in those shades of brown or black makes him happy, so whatevs. But whatever he sees is just coincidence. I know with chickens some breeds are known for certain egg and feather colors, but there’s not as much variety with quail. You’ll get more or less spots, and darker shades of browns, and I’ve spoken with the breeder who I bought mine from, and he assures me the blue eggs in buttons aren’t celadon, the blue eggs are usually weaker eggs, or from older hens laying weaker eggs.OHHHH I assumed that their feather pigment had something to do with it!
I've heard that chicken egg colors match the "earlobe" that's at the side of their head but i haven't had enough close contact with chickens personally to confirm or deny, but yeah feather colors matching the eggs is nonsense in chickens. My neighbor has a big flock of brown, buff and white chickens but they all lay shades of brown. Idk why I assumed its the case with quails, but thanks for informing me anyways! Always appreciate learning new thingsNope, anyone can lay any pattern regardless of feather color. I just got to catching the two to check their vents, my cinnamon DEFINITELY is the mother. Her vent is very clearly enlarged! Though it's a bit red, she seems fine but it's been 4 days with no new egg (not that I've seen one in the cage at least)You can’t tell who laid it by the shell color, but you can look at their vents and the one who laid will have a much larger vent.
