First egg

Our first egg. The she'll seems perfectly formed. Just small. It's a medium brown. I think it's from one of the wynadottes.

I know. They are 24 weeks 5 days. I am so eggcited to finally have an egg.

Is it possible that the pullets that laid the egg would sit on it? They were all piled up in the corner where it was laid.

My guess is the reason they were all piled up near the egg is because they were curious about it. When one of my pullets first started laying, the others would go and watch her and then inspect the egg afterwards. Thankfully I had fake eggs in the nest boxes for weeks so they didn't peck and break the real one.

At this point I'm just happy to start seeing eggs. It feels like I've been waiting forever. I think my cockerel is telling the world about his girl.

Will a cockerels crow change after the pullets start laying? I ve noticed some differences in his crow today.

One more question. If a pullet starts out laying in the evening, will she continue to lay in the evenings?
