Another "first" egg! This time I think from my little LF Brahma Bantam "Windy". I say I think because the only other bantam I have that isn't laying yet is my Red Shouldered Yokohama "RoadRunner" and I haven't seen her hanging around the nesting boxes like I have Windy. It is really a dark creamy color. Darker than my OEGB's but lighter than my BR Bantams.
She is 19 weeks old! That's 4 down and 4 more to go! Hers is on the left. The one on the right is my GLW's egg shown for size comparison.

Excellent, Congratulations. We punched a small hole in each end of our first dozen and we still have the empty shells in an egg carton.
It was a big deal for us and I am sure it is a BIG deal for you also. I remember the feeling of elation and joy. I always wonder what the chicken is thinking. In our case these were the first chicks in the coop, there were no older chicks to show them the ropes.
I can just immagine the poor chicken turning around after laying its first egg, looking at it and asking itsself "Where did that come from".
Now that they are almost a year old they seem to enjoy their quiet time in "the box" unless we gat an impatient one who joins in the favorite box with another hen. I have heard some wierd noises from the box in that case.
Anyway, I am happy to hear all is well in your coop. I hope you have many years of enjoyment from your feathered friends.

I am soooo jealous!!!! I can't wait for eggs!!!! I think I only have a month or so, I have a yearling dominique but she quit laying when I brought home six new 5 week olds!! Of course she is a great mother to them though
