Today I was rewarded with my first eggs but they were so small—smaller than the medium eggs at the supermarket. But there were two of them—the hens are 5.5 months old. I have 16 hens and one rooster.

Will the eggs get bigger?

Congratulations! :celebrate

The first couple of eggs a pullet lays are typically smaller. They should be a larger size after they lay a couple. Sometimes even the second one layed will be more of an average size egg or larger. :)

Yes, for sure. For reference put a quarter beside the eggs so we can see “ how small “, or weigh them...

This is completely normal they are practicing...

I give you this picture so you can imagine what’s to come View attachment 1503103
:lau the "more eggs than you have room in the basket for" stage..:gig
Beautiful eggs btw! :love

Looks to be twice the size of a quarter....no eggs yet today....

Yep. 20160906_102937.jpg . This was about 6 weeks after the first egg. 20160906_103011.jpg . The largest was a Double Yolker. My first eggs were small 43 grams/1.5oz. My Golden Comets at 28 months old average XL and Jumbo. 71/2.5.
These are sex-links. A purebred may be different and Bantams will be smaller. GC

My 2 Spitzhauben pullets have been laying tiny eggs for a month. These eggs are smaller than the bantam eggs! But are these girls ever egg laying machines. In the past 14 days they gave me 25 eggs and 2 were double yolkers......I am looking forward to bigger eggs so we can hatch some....

Wow!!
I got a friend that loves his eggs small and only buys medium size, because our store doesn't sell small.
He was crazy for my eggs, 20160805_104337.jpg ,till they got over 50 grams.
I would like to get some small egg layers, but I need another coop. GC
