I recently hatched my first batch of quail chicks. I had 5 in totally, 4 male and 1 female. I got to 8 weeks old and it all started to get abit crazy in the coop. The males had come of age! They'd started to fight and one was quite injured...it was time for the inevitable! I wasn't sure how I'd butcher birds I'd raised buy after seeing the fighting and injuries i realised it was the most humane thing to do. Results below.

I too wondered about how I'd manage the harvest and waited far too long before just doing it. My birds roasted up OK, but were somewhat tough. I ended up just making a delicious batch of stock instead of trying to eat them. I have a couple of juvenile males that will be going to freezer camp in a couple of weeks (unless I decide to cook and eat them instead).
