Got home from work last night to quite the surprise - our chicks had started hatching! We’re at about the halfway mark of the 72 that entered lockdown with 35 that have hatched in the last 18hrs. The ones that joined us last night are definitely quite dry and floofy. I would like to remove them, but am wondering if I should remove all hatched chicks at the same time or just the ones that have dried and fluffed up?

Here’s a picture of our first hatchling! 44183A0D-959A-4F94-9A1E-855B6E30CB8F.jpeg

What I read was to only remove the dry ones. That the still-wet ones can get chilled in the brooder since it's not as warm as the incubator.

Hopefully someone more experienced will chime in.

I snuck in a hot water soaked towel and was able to get out 5 dried little fluff balls (and lots of eggshells) without effecting the humidity much. They all hatched late yesterday evening, so it had been almost 24hrs. They are in a temporary dog pool until everyone is ready to move to their brooder.

42/72 have hatched. Our first Maran just hatched a little bit ago! I’m hoping the other 4 BCM eggs hatch soon then we have a couple stragglers from each breed remaining as well.
