First Meat Bird Expirement - Need Opinion

I am preparing to do my first cross to see if I can create a vigorous hybrid meat bird. I have decided I am going to cross my Speckled Sussex w/ my Buckeyes. Having never tried this, I was wondering how others decide which way to cross. Should I use my Buckeye roo w/ SS hen or SS roo w/ Buckeye hens? Please explain why.

Personally I would make the cross both ways and see if there's noticable difference ; or I would use the Sussex hens , if ? they are the better layers , just for efficiency . [ I would think of it more as a search for crossbred vigor than hybrid vigor . ]
