Hello everyone,
I'm "photo chick" from Essex, Vermont. I am totally new to chickens! My first little chicks (6 Buff Orpingtons) are arriving May 8th - eek! I'm both excited and nervous as heck!

I am a proud mother of 3 kids (6,5 and 3). We also have a lab, a kitty and 2 goldfish. I am a portrait photographer (hence my member name) with a studio on our property.

We have about 10 acres of land which mostly right now we use for mountain biking, fire wood and photography. I am really excited to get some chickens to add some character around here!

I have no chicken coop yet and to tell you the truth, I'm very overwhelmed about the idea of making one. I have been on-line for weeks but still havn't found the perfect coop plan for freezing winters that we have here in the (almost) Great White North.

I look forward to learning from you all.

WELCOME FROM VA!! You're really going to enjoy it here. There are tons of great coop ideas and lots of northerners here to give you advice on winterizing them.

welocme aboard! I live even more North and it does get very cold-we used a kitchen cuboard set nailed to a wall outside fenced in-we used heating lights and heated water bowl-lots of bedding and they were warm and survived all winter...I have BO's too they are great--you don't need a super duper ouse for them-something temporary will do until you find the perfect coop design...goodo luck and welcome again!

Welcome from Colorado!! I re-designed my coop every time I used the Forum for months before I had everything I wanted in it. It might even be finished before my hens start laying - No, really, it might be done this week!

Thank you everyone
