I have a broody light Sussex hen that I hatched last year. She has been lying on eggs for 22days now over a few are 21-22 days old but the rest are 5-7 days older. The oldest eggs haven't hatched yet but today one of her eggs cracked and the was a small forum of a chick in it. Some yolk got on on the ground in the nest is the safe for the other eggs?. And should I candle the eggs and how would I do that? My broody is very viscous and pecks everytime my hand is near she every pecks an egg if I have one In my hand, so would it be safe to do candling at night?. Also I was thinking if none of the eggs hatch the I will buy day old chicks to put under her, is that a good idea?
