Just "shining a flashlight in" won't work you need to get "up close and personal. You need to take the egg out into a dark room and put the flashlight touching the egg and shining directly in. You don't need to worry, when I hatched my eggs I took them out to candle every day, sometimes twice. It won't harm the eggs, in the wild the mom leaves for about half an hour at a time for food and drink, she also moves the eggs. It won't hurt them one bit, unless, that is of you drop the egg. (Ha Ha!)
Yes, if you exercise caution, washing hands and be gentle (definitely don't drop them) candling is not going to hurt once a day. I have heard some people have luck candling while in the bator. Not me. When you candle, candle down into the egg from the air cell end, maybe even just a tad to the side (so it's at an angle). If you candle from the bottom you will confuse yourself and if you candle from the side you are going to see very little compared to what you will see from the top down. When I go to candle my eggs what exactly should I do? Do I have to take the eggs out to candle them? Can I not just shine a flashlight through the incubator over the eggs? taking them out to candle them worries me!
