Hey you guys! Today I got 5 chicks. This is my first time having chicks. Do I ended up deciding on an EcoGlo heating pad/plate for their heat source and it works very well👍🏼 But I didn’t have some questions on what height to put the heat at. There a three different height settings. 1 is the shortest, 2 is the middle, and 3 is the tallest. I have it at 1 right now because they are only a few days to a week old. I was wondering if they were too hot they would just move out from under the heat? Because they sleep ALL day which concerned me, but then I thought it might be because they are babies. I am just wondering if their heat is good, and if their sleeping is ok. Thank you!

Hi and welcome to BYC. I usually put the front legs one notch higher than the rear legs - this gives the chicks an option (though if I am being honest, it’s probably for my own peace of mind, more than anything else). Here are some helpful links:

Best wishes

Thank you for your advice❤️ I just get so worried that when I’m not looking, one of them won’t move away from the heat (which they have room) and die😪 but thank you so much! I might very well just do that

As long as they stand under it your safe and yes if it is too warm they will leave it ..
you sould be safe as long as they have room to lay away from it as they age a bit ..
Welcome to Backyard Chickens this is a great place here
Thank you! They do have PLENTY of room to roam around and get away from the heat. Thank you for your advice🥰
