Hey all,
I've been lurking for a while and finally decided to raise some chickens with my wife!
We live in Centennial Colorado have a decent sized backyard and are starting chickens and gardening this year.
We had some rollover vacation and decided to get our flock last week and we are already hooked. We have a black australorp, Red Star, Barred PR, Buff Silkie, speckled sussex, and silver laced red wyandotte. All were pullets except for the Silkie and Wyandotte were from a straight run.... Were nervous to find out the sex of those 2 because they were our pretty breeds.
We found an old toybox at an estate sale we used for a brooder that works perfectly (the kitties get locked out of the room when we are not supervising.

My brother and I will be building a coop in the backyard similar to the mid-life crisis coop but a little less grand I suspect.
Thanks to all of your great posts and guides we knew what to keep an eye out for pasty butt and we successfully cleaned off 3 of our chicks when we got them in, they then all took what must have been the world record poops in the chick division. (sorry if that was too graphic but we were so glad to see them feeling better)
Here are some pics of the little ones, Ill keep you all posted on the coop. Any tips or tricks welcome!

Bonus not a chicken....

Thanks,
Erik
