Hello everyone, my name is Sandy. My husband and I adopted 2 jersey giant hens and 2 polish crested hens on August 1st. We live in Southern California and have had a cold winter for the area. Our polish crested started laying eggs a month ago, we have not seen any eggs from our beautiful jerseys. Is this normal? I have read it takes 6 months for them mature. What has everyone experienced? The jerseys are also very vocal. Is there anything we can do to quiet them down a little bit, I don't think our neighbors appreciate the noise.

! Great to have you here! I have heard the Jersey Giants took longer to start laying - should be soon. But I don't know if there is a way to quiet down a noisy hen. But below are two threads that discussed that very issue. Good luck to you and hope they tone it down!

Welcome to BYC. Yes, the JG are slower maturing but should provide lots of large eggs starting in the spring.
