It appears my beloved Pekin duck has flystrike. We had a dog attack a few days ago and my sister said she was fine, when in fact she had two puncture wounds on her stomach, hence the flystrike.

I have never had any animal have flystrike before and i am looking for any tips! She is still drinking water and attempting to preen. Haven’t seen her poop yet.

Today we went ahead and trimmedher feathers and tried to get off as many as we could. There were a LOT. We were going to continue but then i could feel her heartbeat and we went ahead and stopped. I did a final rinse and then coated her in iodine. The little slimy suckers don’t seem to like iodine at all. I was going to put antibiotic cream on her but she seems like she’d had about enough of us for one night. Now i have her in a xl dog crate in my room with food and water. The little maggots are still falling off of her. But I know a lot more lay underneath her feathers. I will note, however, that they don’t seem to have eaten through her skin anywhere, yet.

Please any help in greatly appreciated. We are trying our best to get her better and i would be absolutely heartbroken if it got so bad that I had to put her down.
Sorry for the excess of info but I’m really in need of advice, I think I might be over my head with one. Will attach pictures soon.
Thanks for any response,
Carina

I would get all of them off before they eat through her skin. They'll poop in there, making a feeding ground for bacteria. Maggots are used to clean wounds, but only under very controlled circumstances--and these aren't. Good idea on the iodine.

I would rinse out the wounds very thoroughly with sterile saline before coating with ointment in future.

I only had water on hand, i would have made a saline solution but i didn’t think this was flystrike i was dealing with. We are going to go again tomorrow to see how many more we can get off her. We have a different strategy for tomorrow too. Wish me luck, any tips on the next 16 hours would be great :) Let’s hope me can get most (id say all but i highly doubt that) tomorrow.
