Hi All,

I let my 3 month old girls loose into an open area in the forest (northern ca, mendocino) and they all started devouring this low ground cover plant with tiny yellow flowers. Since I've already had a scare with them going for foxglove and bracken fern I feel so nervous about the suitability of our land for foraging. I have the list of poisonous plants but problem is I DONT KNOW WHAT THIS PLANT IS :(

Since there wasn't a botany forum I'm posting here. Thank you!

I live in Pennsylvania, but that looks like a small- flowered clover I might find in my garden. It's hard to tell because the picture is blurry. Chickweed flowers have 5 petals, and are usually white ( here in PA anyway). Can you bring a sample to a local plant nursery? Sometimes staff can be very knowledgeable about weeds. Or, Google weeds of California. Also, if you are free ranging in the forest, keep an eye out for aerial predators.

I am in Virginia, but that looks like the plant we have growing all over our yard. We don't have much grass.. just groundcover plants in the backyard. My chickens eat it all the time.
