We had a hen that went broody about a week ago... I had to really dig to get the eggs out from under her. So we decided
to go buy some hatching eggs and let her sit on some.. We also decided to build our own incubator and try to hatch some
our selves.. Been doing lots of reading on here to make sure we have the best possible success.. I will keep you all posted as to how many actually hatch.. We have 6 buff orpington eggs and 6 barred rock eggs.
I do have 1 question.. for estimating hatching day... do i need to start my count from the day we started incubating them, or by the date they were laid?

Thanks.

Cell division starts once the temp goes up not when laid.
That allows a hen to accumulate a clutch before brooding.
So to answer your question, for instance today is Tuesday, if you put them in the incubator today they'll hatch on Tuesday in three weeks regardless of when laid.

Count from the day you started incubating them.

Thanks for the Info and for the great Calendar.. Now we can start counting down.
