I put 10 White Dorking eggs in my homemade incubator (made from a foam cooler, thanks to the awesome plans found on BYC) last night.

Here's hoping for success!

I have 3 hens and a rooster that I got from Yellow House Farm last year. These are eggs from them.

I had started with 12 chicks. Lost 3 hens. The rest of the roosters were dinner.

I'll keep you posted!

cool! i was thinking of getting some last year from them but at $60 for 12 hatching eggs i was going to hold off getting them since i was still new at hatching. how were the roosters for dinner?

i've been wondering since they sell the processed birds at the local market fairs.

The meat is delicious. We processed our birds at their farm- they were really helpful in teaching us how to do it.

You know, you can get day-old chicks from them. You don't have to get the eggs to hatch.

i don't think they offered that last year when i was looking at them. i'm staying put with the breeds i've got and since it is very hard to find dorkings in bantam form i won't be getting them till i can find a good breeder of those to work from.

Just candled the eggs (So cool!!). 5 looking good, 4 looking bad, 1 looking questionable. We shall see...

Will definitely have to do another hatch this season.
