So I currently have a large flock of about 26 birds(two are males).I have most of them since last spring ,and about 7 of them are this spring(March). One of the males I have had over about a year.I kept him out of 6 males because I Perosnally thought he was best fitted for the flock,Not a shy bird, nor is he aggressive.I have witnessed him attack the dogs when outta line and good with chicks.Things I don’t like is he’s a bit immature and a a chooser with some of the hens not even wanting to come out the house, and are always timid and nervous.Plus,he is extremely aggressive with other males.I ideally wnat two or three males who can coexist within the flock.I have witnessed it and know it’s possible, but This guy is just too aggressive and I’m sure will end up killing our bantam roo who is Only five months.Big rooster is a jersey giant,he’s set to leave I’ve already made my mind up on it and he’s gon.
But our with the old in with the new, sorta.About five of the rooster are grown, and the 7 youngest are 2-3 month olds.I defiantly am thinking about bringing home one the older roosters along with a younger one. These birds all live together with other roosters and get along WELL.Theres just too many so the person is riddding of them.Im hoping they will adapt with the little bantam too and hopefully for some sorta understanding(I understand the first week or two might be rough),but I’m sure it won’t be like extreme abuse every couple of mins coming from a big bird.I understand the future can bring anything and am prepared for that, but I Perosnally think they are gon do fine.
I am wondering since this is my first time doing this, will this effect my hens egg laying? Will they even act the same? These hens free range and the rooster tends to lead a lot, will they fall back on free range.I have serpaaretd him
Before and we witnessed a small separation issue with the girls before.I obviously expect some serious aggression from hens and DEFIANTLY a hell lot of rejection.Injust wanted opinions and wondered if anyone else has done this.
