My favorite cochin went broody a few days ago, so I got her a clutch of fertile eggs to sit on, which she enthusiastically accepted. She was in the community nest box. I've always been told that they need to move out of the nest box and into a broody-box, so we moved her to her privet suite in the middle of the night. This morning, she was sitting intently and happily. When I came home around 2:00, she was back in the nest-box, having commandeered a clutch of non-fertile eggs laid today. Her fertile clutch as almost cold. The eggs were 26 hours old at that time. I immediately popped them back under her in the nest box.
Is there any chance that these eggs are still viable? I'm guessing she got out of her box to eat and poo and went back to the nestbox on autopilot.
