Hello everyone I recently decided to build a coop and go out and get some chicks! This is our first time owning chickens, so I might have a few questions through out the pictures. I've been reading all kinds of different threads over the past couple years and finally decided it was time! Here are some pictures of our progress so far.
First the chicks!
The biggest ones name is...Big one haha. She is a barred rock, the farm we got her from said she was about 2 weeks old.
The others were a few days he said. I was a little scarred they might not get along but they all seem to be fitting in well with each other.

The blonde one is a Red sex link, her name is Hotbox. She got that name cause if shes awake shes peeping about something.
When they all eat she is always the bossy one. I love her haha!
The two black ones are black sex links and we have been calling them The Twins. They seem really sweet and a little timid already.
This is our (unfinished) coop. Now we are NOT builders. So if you see any "interesting" choices made that would be why
This is a build I found on YouTube of someone explaining step by step, its not the exact same at all we changed a lot. But the basic structure is relatively the same.
It is built on a concrete slab that is in our backyard and we are in the process of stapling the hardware cloth onto it.
It took about 25x longer than I thought it would
and more money than we originally thought but I really like it now!
Here is the front, we put the nest box on the outside.
The inside, we don't have a roost put up yet but its coming!
The door is my favorite part! we have it framed in and attached to a rope and you can pull the door up and down with the rope so
the hens can go in and out of the coop to the run. It took us some time but we figured it out and I'm very happy we did!
The feeder is a feeder I found on a thread on the forums here. It
was super simple and works perfect!
The roof is grooved plastic we found at Lowes. It is tinted so the light doesn't get too harsh.
Here is the run area and the door, I plan on laying down straw outside I think and use the deep litter method on the inside. We will see. Still need to do some painting and the roost and a few other things but its coming together!
We also built a pen for the chickens to go into, that again I found on the forums here!
This was easy to build just used a ton of zip ties.
I was going to ask when you all thought I could bring them on an outside adventure into the pen? The little ones are a little over a week old if the age he gave us was right.
Its suppose to be in the low 80's here all week I was hoping I could let them run around the yard for a little bit, in a sunny spot. But if I have to wait I can be patient
I'm loving these little chicks so far! I can't wait until around March when I will be anxiously awaiting my first egg!
