Usually my local farm stores don't carry turkeys unless you special order then im large quantities (same with hatcheries) but I went to a local Rural King and they had some white turkeys! I have raised pretty much every other type of backyard poultry/waterfowl (Chickens, Ducks, Guineas, Pigeons, Peafowl) but I never had the chance to grab a few little turkeys.
I picked up two, and unfortantly one passed away right after we got it (Rural King was nice enough to let us come pick up another when they get their next order in) so right now I have one little turkey in with my similar size chicks. I was always under the impression from my being in my local county fair that Turkeys were really mean, but this little guy (I say guy, no idea if male or female) is the most loving chick ever. It greets me every time I come to the brooder and always wants to be picked up and "snuggle" (i'm not even kidding, he likes to sit and snuggle). I cannot wait to watch him grow up (and hopefully his younger brother or sister when he or she arrives.).

(This photo was from about a week ago, it's gotten a lot bigger already!)

I want a couple turkeys too!

We had a few eggs given to us by a friend and I popped them into the incubator. Two hatched - one died. We now have a magnificant Blue Slate Turkey. He is a stunner and keeps an eye on the most recent clutch of chicks (who are now 18 weeks and very well looked after by him). I too had heard turkeys weren't loving. Nothing could be further from the truth. He is loving to us and loving to our hens. We have been blessed with him. I am sorry he is alone but he is never without company of some kind.
