First time with meaties, huge loss

Sometimes it's the luck of the draw....

I get them 100-175 at a time, each group is different. First batch this year we got mid April and had 18% loss, second batch we are at 6% and they have 3 weeks left. I have a group in the brooder now started with 103 seven days ago, thus far I have lost 7 but there were be a few more no doubt before they go outside.

I have tried different hatcheries and the mortality seems the same. Your group seems to have excessive loss but it didn't sound like your doing anything wrong.

Thanks all I was second guessing myself. I remember when I was young and when we got chicks in the summer dad would just hrow them out in the coop and usually would only lose a couple in the first week.

I will be ordering more for this year and see how that batch goes. Maybe the first was just dumb luck and it will be better the second time.

I dont want this to be a Meyer bash because they have been great and from the different things I have read, they did everything normal.
