HIGHLY recommend anyone raising chickens for the first time, watches a video of them dustbathing, before they encounter it lol! Witnessed one of my girls dustbathing for the first time and despite being fairly certain that was what she was doing, i still had a minor heart attack :lau Once i calmed down, it was pretty entertaining!

I totally agree.....when I first saw mine doing it I had no idea what was wrong with them....lol......

I saw the 1 week old chicks mimicking their mum when dustbathing, it was the silliest thing I ever saw. XD Especially since they kept going into the hen's 'dust bowl' and getting flung out as she dustbathed!

LOL! Oh i hope to see lil ones doing it at some point; as these are my first, i didnt have a momma to show them, so theyve only just started (or at least that i have witnessed) and even though i created them a dustbath area in the coop and everything, the first time i saw it i had a complete fit!

Yeah, the first time I saw it, I called my daughter, and told her I thought something was horribly wrong with her chickens, they were flopping all over, trying to bury themselves in dirt. She laughed at me, and explained it.
LOL that is so funny. i had read so many chicken books that i knew what was going on when they dust bathed for the first time, but i probably would have been really scared too if i hadn't done my research!

Then my older chickens started dustbathing, my dad thought something was wrong with them too. :p I also had to explain the dusbathing thing... And the sunbathing thing. :lau

I LOVE the sunbathing thing. I call it their 'crazy pose'-neck all fluffed up, wing stretched out, eyes half closed, legs all stretched out. sometimes three of my chickens will just flop down in the sun together-right on top of each other
