Ok just explained this to the hubby and showed him a fertile and non-fertile egg and said guess which is which (he couldn’t) said we can keep the rooster (until it goes to attack someone…if it even would)

Never take for granted he won’t attack, I had my rooster for a couple years when he decided to flog me… I kicked him square in the chest so hard I thought I killed him. Scared me half to death but he didn’t do it again until about 3 months ago when I locked him out of the coup and he wanted back in…. Caught me with my back turned and got me good… I chased him down and got him back… but now I watch him close… sneaky fart! They can hurt you bad when they want to and be smart about doing it is what surprised me!

I’d say it’s good to have a rooster around because they become useful when protecting your flock and alarming you if there’s a threat nearby.

I only have hens and pullets. One of my hens took over as the protector since we don't have a rooster. She makes an alarm noise when she thinks there's danger (an airplane flying over or the big mean dumpster truck).
