This was our first try at this. With a home bator. We had 7 hatch out 12. Not bad I think. They are RIR. They are a week old getting wing and tail fethers. Is there a tip to telling the sex at this age?

If you don't get enough responses here - - - you might want to repost under the:
"Breed or Gender" forum.

I can not help you - - - I've been told what to do, but I haven't had enough chicks to practice the skill. All my chicks were pre sexed. They were suppose to be FEMALEs. I had one that just looked strange compared to the others - - - I posted a picture of her and was told she was a HE.

The above incident did not happen until they were about 3 weeks old. To me all babies are just fluffy butts . . . Good Luck - -

I agree.
You'll need to wait a few weeks, then post pictures in the "breed and gender" forum. I just did that and got an answer quite quickly.
When they're only a week or two old, it's so hard to tell.
Good luck to you!

Last June I bought a straight run of 6 fresh hatched chicks. We watched them grow, hoping for hens. 5 were roos! The one I named Stuey is now my broody hen!

I was supposed to get 16 girls as chicks, but I ended up getting ten boys and only 6 girls who are very mean.
