So thought it would be a fun project to go through the incubation process with my kids. I have built my own incubator with a standard 40qt styrofoam cooler. 40 watt light bulb wired with a dimmer for temp control, a pc fan wired to a 12v adjustable adapter (controls fan speed). Installed a glass viewing window and a standard digital thermometer/hygrometer. They are due to hatch around the 12th of April. Only regret is not wiring in a thermostat to te light, current method requires contstant monitoring, but the kids love checking on them so its not so bad. Hope to candle them soon to see how they are progressing. Ive been trying to keep humidity at about 30 and temp seems to fluctuate between 98 and 102, averageing about 100. Wish us luck and pics to follow.

congrats and best of luck to you!!!!!

Congrats and good luck! I'm a first timer myself, set my eggs last Tuesday and due to hatch out on the 10th of April. It's very exciting, especially the candling part.

So I couldn't resist ant longer, at day 5 I candled them. They are brown eggs and a little hard to tell, but could definitely make out the air sac on most of them and a darker mass (whether it be embryo or yolk). I will wait till the weekend to check again. Fingers crossed!

Right after we set them up

So I had to throw one of the eggs out as it definitely was no good, it was one I had identified as having a porous shell so from what I have read not too surprised (it started "leaking"). There seems to definitely been development, so heres hoping. Lock down is only a few days away. Question how should I place them for lockdown? Ive read people saying to leave them in the egg cartons if thats how they have been incubated, but others state to place eggs on there side? If left in the carton which direction should the egg be in? (small end up, air sac at the top?) Thanks!

So the eggs are now in lock down, having trouble keeping the humidity where I want it. Decided to lay the eggs down, didn't want to take any chances that if any of them hatch that they would be stuck the wrong way. Fingers crossed!
