Hello,

I've been reading through the posts here about Turkeys. I make Dreamcatchers and am learning to make more crafts and use only real, natural materials. I would love to have turkey feathers to work with, and I have always liked Turkeys. I was hoping to get some poults, but the only person I could find (I used Craigslist) near my area in Florida just sold the last of them and are offering 2 year old Narragenset hens for $30.

Is it a good idea to go with the year old turkey hen? I am planning to look at them on Saturday. I want them to be friendly as my birds are also pets. I would use any shed feathers for my crafts as I do with my silver pheasants.

Thank you! Any advice in general is welcome and appreciated!

To me, $30 for an adult turkey sounds like a good deal. All you can do is go and look and see if you like them. Narraganset feathers would be good for crafts because they have some variation in color.

My turkeys were just born friendly and that's all I have experience with. So I don't know if a stand-off-ish turkey would warm up to you. If there even is such a thing as a stand-off-ish turkey, I suspect some time and treats would soon win them over.

Either have a really good pen, or clip the wing feathers, or you won't have those turkeys for very long.

I can post a photo tomorrow of the aviary the turkey would be in. I was hoping to let it out to free range during the day, once I know if it will stick around, I don't know at all how to clip wings. Would he or she try to dig out?

I'm in Bradenton. Definitely still very open to any poults out there!!
