Ok, so I have a dumb question, can you call the vet and get a rooster fixed? If it is possible does he still crow? I guess I am really not adjusting to having to get rid of my baby silky. We babied him and he cuddles with me. He was so darn cute, and I am trying to grasp at any idea that will allow me to go back and pick him up from the farm. I am so heart sick since he left. The problem is that we do not want baby chicks and his crowing is a problem in our neighborhood. I am have even thought of keeping him in the house.....that's how desperate I am! I also feel that it is cruel to keep him isolated from the other chickens. What do you think?

You could put a crow collar on him I used it on one of my roosters, he still crowed but it was MUCH quieter it was kinda gurgly too.

There is chemical and surgical sterilization for roosters but both are very iffy. Sadly, neither will stop him from crowing, they would just make him sterile. If you collect eggs daily, no need to worry about chicks. Keeping him in the house after he's been a farm rooster....probably not a great idea for the bird. Sorry

Thanks, we ideally can't keep him in the house anyway we have parrots. We have to be really careful. I guess I realize I did what was best for him. I just did not realized just how attached we would get to him after just 4 months. I feel like I gave away one of my kids.

Hugs, sometimes it's SO HARD to be a grownup. I HATE adulting, especially when it comes to feather or fur babies

LFord - If you get the eggs daily and stick them in the fridge you will not have to worry about chicks. I have the same situation as you with a Silkie Roo that I adore (and neighbors). I'm doing a No Crow Collar (see MyPetChicken.com) on him right now and he isn't crowing. Of course he's spending all of his time trying to figure out how to get the collar off....but it's working. For the first few days I have had him in the house at night just to give him a break from the collar (he's in the coop/run during the day and evening). As soon as he stops fussing with the collar, I'll leave it on routinely and let him roost at night like he did before the crowing. I'm even hoping to get the bow tie version...he'll look even more handsome!
