Would it help my outdoor cats this Summer if I got Flea treatment for them? Would it even work considering they stay outside?

Any animal, indoor or outdoor, will benefit from flea control. Not having itchy, blood sucking vermin crawling around on their skin is much healthier and has got to feel better. My Frontline Plus wasn't working so well for me last year, so I'm going to try something else this spring...

DO NOT USE HARTZ! Go do a search on it. Doesn't matter what you search or where on the web you will find plenty of info on it. In my opinion that company needs shut down. They produce nothing of quality and kill many animals with their bad foods and medications.

Biospot is similar to the ingredients in hartz brand but made by farnam. It's to be applied every 3months for fleas (more often for mosquitos and ticks) but personally I wouldn't touch permethrins. They are cheap for a reason and you'll find most owners place all the products using them right up alongside hartz as the most dangerous flea products on the market. There is a medication that just requires twice yearly injections which an experienced person could probably do themselves but it does not kill adults so probably not useful for outdoor cats. You aren't going to completely stop all fleas outdoors so things that just interrupt their lifecycle aren't as useful. Frontline, advantage, or revolution would help keep fleas off the cats as safely as any medication will and the level of fleas in the yard down by directly killing the adult fleas. Unfortunately they are costly. If you were very very careful ivermectin could probably be used and can be bought in bulk at the feed store for much cheaper. However I would not normally recommend it for cats as they are very sensitive to it. You can easily kill them if you measure wrong and it's not very effective beyond the first 7-10 days so they wouldn't be covered as well all month. A better solution for people who have an existing flea problem and don't have the money to solve it properly. Sentinel makes some great products for dogs both all natural herbal mixtures and formulas that stop insect growth. I don't know if they make any products for cats though. I would probably pick them as the safest products you could use but not as effective as say frontline.
