Flies and such

I just bought fly traps... The liquid kind are sorta stinky but they work GREAT! The stickey ones work pretty good as well... You are not going to rid your coop of them completely... they kinda come with the territory... It also helps to make sure that the coop is well ventilated.

I did the fly trap things as well, in two weeks one is half full.
I did recently order some fly predators from Spalding, it cost about $79.00 for a four month shipment that they will send out each month. they do ask how many animals you have so they only charge for and send only what you need.

Get a couple guineas!

I bought one of the "add water" fly trap bags from my local feed store. It starting working the first day. My four little chicks are not the biggest poop problem, it is the goats and horses that live next door.

i don't like the catch a fly sysyem, smelly and you have to empty them or you get maggots EWWWW. i get golden malerin fly bait poision, cut holes in 1 gal milk jugs, in the sides, leaving a couple inches deep, put bait in and suspend from rafters. flies go eat and die there. throw away carton when full. you can sprinkle on a bag and set around, but always afraid some bait might reach the ground and birds eat it. these jugs worked great in the horse barn, and you don't have to see the little buggers

We use a sparyer full of dawn soap and water. Spray the area once a week and then hose her down. Very few flies roam around our coupes and it doesn't bother our girls. They took one drink and that was enough for them! But we keep bowls of water around, where they free range and clean and fill them daily so they are never in danger of running out.

I use fly jars baited with honey/water or rotten meat. Yeah it's pretty disgusting if you stand within a foot of it, but it's cheap, it's re-usable and it's very effective. I have declared war on the biting insect and fly population in my area.

Look out ants, you're next!
