Flies

There are several things you can do to get rid or control flies. The first step i took was to make sure the coop/manure stays dry due to the flies being attracted to it. You can also spray bleach around the coop, get a fly bait web or get a can of golden marlin fly bait(works like a charm). I also use Quarry Sand in my coop which helps to dry out the manure quick. Last but not least i got a product called Nature's Odor Eliminator which i add to the birds water that breaks down the ammonia.

Hope this helps in some way.

DE works awesome for me. I use Red Lake DE. $17.00 for a 40 lb bag. I get it at my local feed store.

i barley have any flies in my coop and it's in the same area that i have a pig and calf pens, we spray tea tree oil in the coop every time we clean, after dark if i'm out side i'll turn the out door light on the coop so they can have more play time, at that time they take care of the bugs who tend to go for the light!!

I wasn't seeing any flies until I ran out of DE...and it had to be ordered for me! It was raining almost every day for a week and now we have lots of flies. I placed a sticky fly trap (that you add water to) a few yards from the coop and dusted the coop and run with DE and the fly problem is much better. I agree with the poster that said keep it dry... It makes such a difference...
