Being as how it seems quail like to die better than live, is there anything I spray around the pens to kill the 4,275,818 flies without killing the birds?

Hmmm... the only thing I can think of that is totally safe for birds is DE (Diatomaceous Earth). Google it to find out about it's millions of great uses - we are never out of stock this stuff is great! Try to find it locally as it will be cheaper but I have purchased online when on sale before also. Not sure what site though as it was a while back. Otherwise, pick up a few of those fly trap containers they sell at almost all tractor supply/feed farm type stores. They work great and also use no chemicals. Chemicals and birds usually don't mix well. Good luck on your killing spree, I hate flies too!

how come there is so many flies? My birds are in wire cages & the poop drops to the ground., we use old snow shovels & scoop up the poop. Then take it to the pile in the woods to rot down. Everyso often(not often) I put clorox in the hose end sprayer & spray. kills the smell & maybe stops the flies that come to the smell. what about putting 55% malathyon in the hose end & spray for fies? I don't know but I think it is ok after it dries.Just like High Yeald 38

Google fly predators, they work really well as long as you have a steady supply of manure, they are also flies but much less of a problem. They lay their eggs in other flies eggs and they eat the larvae or something like that they take a while to work but they will do their job.
