Flies

I am having a problem with flies. I have had my chickens since April and the flies just started about 3 days ago. (we have not had rain all summer till about 2 weeks ago) What can I use that will not harm my chickens?

The flys are so bad! We have so many, it's terrible! I think I'm just going to put fly traps where the chickens can't get to them.

I found that the plastic bag traps that smell so bad work quite well.

There was a long post that spanned weeks about the auto air fresheners shaped like Christmas trees in the vanilla scent. It was about a year ago. I put 4 of the Christmas tree vanilla scented air fresheners in the coop--and it greatly reduced the flies! Also this spring, the buffalo gnats showed up and were attacking the girls, driving them crazy! I waited until they went to roost and then I sprayed them with vanilla, yup, the baking vanilla that I put in cookies, cakes etc. It kept the gnats off! Vanilla, Vanilla, VANILLA!!!! Your coop will smell sooooo good!!
