i've been having the hatch from hell with lots of eggs-plosions.

i intend to do the float test on the remaining eggs today and put any viable eggs into the incubator. this broody has been through too much and she needs to start raising the one little chick that has managed to hatch properly.

i'm wondering if i can wash the eggs at the same time as doing the float test. the eggs are covered with muck!

thanks for any info!

ok, well, i already did it, and there were only 4 eggs left. i tested, and only one was a low floater. i washed it down a bit right in the bowl, not too much, it still stank afterwards! dried it and put it in the bator. no peeps or movement. don't have much hope... what a horrible hatch.

only have myself to blame, i was much too lax. didn't candle (on vacation). not sure my rooster is performing properly (too small). knew my eggs were having weak shells (but didn't have time to fix that when she went broody). didn't pick through and only choose really good eggs for her. and all under a super young pullet.

sigh.
