I thought my Ayam jumped the fence and got eaten. She went missing for weeks and we scoured the very dense foliage in the run for many hours and days to come up empty. Then I heard the flock signaling danger. I wondered out to find the ayam with a chick. The flock was attacking it like crazy and momma Ayam was upset and fending off as many as possible. I scooped up the injured chick (an eye and neck/back was pecked and bleeding) and spent 2 hours trying to catch momma. If anyone has ever tried to catch an Ayam it’s not easy. Once caught put both in a plastic dog crate and let them settle down for a few days.

it’s been 2 weeks and mom and baby are doing great. Chick healed up nicely, eye is ok. But I am scared to put them back in the big coop for fear the others will EAT the chick. There are 13 hens and one rooster.

Anyone else have this problem and if so what did you do?

You'll probably have to acclimate them back into the flock like when adding new chickens...Keeping them with the flock but separated for a little while until they get to know each other again through a fence or chicken wire.

2x @MrFluffyandGirls ... Glad the chick recovered ok, yes chickens are not the easiest to catch. Recommended method is the "see but no touch" ... Is the crate large enough that feed/water can be put in? Or do you have a large wire cage? Something way that the hen & chick are secured but able to be seen/part of the flock ... Maybe section off a corner in the coop/run? This will help integrate and keep them safe, also gives the chick some time to get bigger.
