Flock Blocks

A friend of mine has been getting Flock Blocks for her 'gals lately and said she really liked them. Has anyone else tryed these? What do they have in them?

Flock blocks are not real high in protein. I bought one in the winter it gave them something to peck on. I'm getting away from to many treats. I'll give mine some boss here & there. During the summer I give them veggies from my garden no problem. But giving to many treats reduces there protein intake from the feed your feeding. I've never been able to figure out the no more than 10% treats rule. So, this time of the year I let them free range & find their own food. They always have feed available in the coop along with fresh water. I will always give them meat because it's high in protein. I want to make sure they are getting plenty of protein not a bunch of junk food that lowers their protein intake that's provided in the feed that I provide them.

do not know about the nutritional value but i have a small version of these in with my 5 week olds it stopped some of the pecking i rarely see them eating it though they play with it since i have it hanging that it swings around when they touch it.

Ah, I see. I think they're pretty expensive..my friend that buys them says her birds don't eat near as much of their other feed, no wonder!

Personally, I think Flock Blocks are pretty disgusting.

What? Why? How? Well, for starters, the packaging doesn't even encompass the entire block, leaving it exposed to anything it may be exposed to - any pathogens tracked into TSC by everybody who goes there. Second, it is too low in protein. Third, it's too big and just sits there getting filthier and filthier before the birds consume the whole thing.

I have one...my chickens like it...but the rats liked it more. I had to put it up at night. Now I only put it out indoors on bad weather days when the chickens are looking for something to do.
