Good Evening,

Is it possible for a smaller hen to be the flock leader of larger hen. I have my Bantam and another hen that I will introduce after quarantine period is over. My Hen Betsy has been with me for half a year. She is a very kind chicken. She crows almost every day. My new chicken is younger but about double her size. She is a bit more docile than my Bantam. I have a bantam Serama type hen that is not really a Serama because she is a decent size. Not sure what breed she is. Anyways not a pure Serama as she is not so miniature. So what’s up let me know. I want my girl to be Betsy to ALPHA. She rules her territory that has been hers and only hers for some time now….. She was with me first and I don’t want any knew B to try and be boss. Although the new bed is just so lovely. She is a silkie/arurcana mix (rumpless with blue ears).

Thanks.
Peace.

My bantam cochin named Itty Bitty for a reason ruled the roost here for 8 years. I had BSL, California Whites, EE, and Brahma among others in my flock. No one gave her trouble ever and she kept everyone in line.
Loves it ! Thanks for the good news. I was worried that it was all about size only! I know it’s silly. But I got her first. It’s her turf.. she really utilizes her space well. Lol …. And crows! I wish I could play a video here because it is hilarious…

I had two little serama roosters that were in charge. They would both gang up on my big RBW roosters if they got ANYWHERE near their girls. My little banty hens are also pretty high in the pecking order. They may be small, but they pack in a lot of attitude.

Yes, sometimes that happens.

My new chicken is younger but about double her size. She is a bit more docile than my Bantam.

The older hen is likely to be dominant at first. That might change when the younger one finishes growing up, or it might not change.

I want my girl to be Betsy to ALPHA. She rules her territory that has been hers and only hers for some time now….. She was with me first and I don’t want any knew B to try and be boss.

The chickens will not care what you want. But once both chickens agree about who is the leader, they should be able to live peacefully no matter which way it turns out.
